Imaging Windows Vista Using Symantec Ghost

Problem / Description

After restoring a full disc image (2 partitions, one of which is diagnostic) using Ghost v7.5, Windows Vista Business failed to start with a Windows Boot Manager error message.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

  1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
  2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
  3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

  1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
  2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
  3. Click "Repair your computer."

The following was displayed when I did this on my computer:

After clicking the [Repair and restart] button, windows reboots and installs a "generic volume driver" then requires a reboot.

After rebooting, everything appears okay. Windows Vista boots without any errors.
