Nationwide Domestic Violence Hotline:

This is a 24-hour toll-free offering crisis intervention assistance to those in need. The voice number is 1-800-799-SAFE, and the TDD number for the hearing impaired is 1-800-787-3224. Help is available to callers in Spanish and to other non-English speakers and the hearing impaired. Callers can receive counseling and be connected directly to help in their communities, including emergency services and shelters. Also, operators can offer information and referrals, counseling and assistance in reporting abuse to survivors of domestic violence, family members, neighbors, and the general public. The Texas Council on Family Violence in Austin, a leader and vital support to families in crisis for over 17 years, will staff and operate the hotline. The hotline is funded by three HHS agencies: Administration for Children and Families, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. http://www.ndvh.org/

DOJ: Violence Against Women Office:

In March of 1995, the President named Bonnie Campbell, former Attorney General of Iowa, to be Director of the Violence Against Women Office at the Department of Justice. In making the announcement, the President noted " for the first time in history, the federal government becomes a full time partner in the fight to curb violence against women. " The Department's Violence Against Women Office leads a comprehensive national effort to combine tough new federal laws with assistance to states and localities to fight domestic violence and other crimes against women.   http://www.usdoj.gov/vawo/

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)

As the nation's resource center for child protection, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) spearheads national efforts to locate and recover missing children and raises public awareness about ways to prevent child abduction, molestation, and sexual exploitation. http://www.missingkids.com/

National Fraud Information Center & Internet Fraud Watch:

The NFIC is the only nationwide toll-free hotline for consumers to get advice about telephone solicitations and report possible telemarketing fraud to law enforcement agencies. In 1996, the Internet Fraud Watch was created, enabling the NFIC to offer consumers advice about promotions in cyberspace and route reports of suspected online and Internet fraud to the appropriate government agencies. http://www.fraud.org/
